I have been surprised that I have not had any bad odour from the box at all (it pongs when you open the waste drawer to change the liner on day 4 lol) I would not leave waste drawer for 7 days (company claim 7 days, as I keep the box in a bedroom this may be different if box was kept in a garage or utility room you may get 7 days before a change is needed) as I experimented when I first got it and at the end of day 4 I got a slight musty smell by the box and day 5 it was in the air not just by the box, so I think it needs changed on day 4 (which I think is amazing).
