This is an interesting book but unfortunately this 2005 edition (ISBN: 3-8228-4085-8) is faulty as it omits all the 240 1950s covers included in the original 1996 printing ISBN: 3-8228-8595-9. This edition of Record Covers presents a selection of the best rock album covers of the 60s to 90s from music archivist, disc jockey, journalist, and former record-publicity executive Michael Ochs's enormous private collection. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Sure the SATANIC MAJESTY's REQUEST rolling stones record looks cool with that lenticular cover, but. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. The Five Keys cover is rare because the thimb on the far left might have been misunderstood as an exposed penis. Scrutinising the cover of an LP record used to be a major part of the pleasure of acquiring and acquainting oneself with it. Sometimes the back covers or the whole folding of the covers are shown (like Small Faces' "Ogden's Nut.

To feed his habit, Ochs headed the puplicity departments of Columbia, Shelter, and ABC Records in the 60s and 70s. of the best record covers of all time from the Michael Ochs Archives, one of the world's largest private collections" (from the cover).

Las portadas están bien seleccionadas y representan una amplia gama de estilos musicales, desde el rock and roll de los años 60 hasta el grunge de los años 90. Would make a great gift, too, for people who didn't live through the era in which the LP cover was a deliberate art form unto itself. Even when the book gets the bands right it often fails with the albums- despite including the Beatles' Hey Jude and Meet the Beatles, there's no White album, and artists such as Joy Division and Radiohead don't get a single cover printed.Even thought this book has little text, just looking at covers your brain starts to develop context: American propaganda, hippie movement, gender issues, racial context and you can see that the records shown here say a lot about the collector who owns them. vinyl); elsewhere unusually-shaped types and picture discs (the latter have been appearing since the 1940s (of which two examples are shown). Some of the 1970s images, implying rape or other sexual exploitation, are highly disturbing to the contemporary sensibility, and it's telling to speculate on how they could not have been so when originally produced. Although it does include a lot of great and controversial album covers (Blind Faith, Lennon and Ono's 'Two Virgins' to name a couple), a large amount of the book seems compiled with complete rubbish, notably the first 1/4 which appears to be more a collection of the cheesiest record sleeves that the author could find.
